Airport Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a Brazil-based Nigerian who tried to smuggle into Nigeria five Kilograms of cocaine from Brazil.
The 36-year-old Nigerian man identified as Ibeh Augustine Chukwuma revealed that he has been working with a construction company in Brazil since 2011 and he has helped smuggle cocaine from Brazil to fund his traditional marriage.
According to him, he opened up to another Nigerian living in Brazil for financial support for his forthcoming wedding and he was promised N500,000 (GHc7,562.54) by a compatriot living in Brazil if he could deliver the drug consignment to an unknown person who will receive him at the airport in Abuja.
He admitted that he knew the content of the bag but blamed it all on financial difficulties.
“His name is Emmanuel Paul. He deals in foodstuff along with operating a restaurant. He is my friend. I asked him for financial assistance for my marriage and he said he cannot give me the money until I carry the cocaine. He actually told me that it is drugs but I have no choice,” NDLEA spokesperson, Jonah Achema quoted Chukwuma as saying
